ASHVILLE - Three
Teays Valley seniors scored big victories Thursday night, helping the
Vikings beat county-rival Logan Elm 41-28 at home Thursday.
Teays Valley finishes third in the Mid-State League with a 5-2 mark in
duals while Logan Elm takes fourth at 4-3.
“Our kids came out aggressive tonight,” Teays Valley coach Todd Nace
said. “Our younger kids did well in their weights.”
The Vikings
scored the first 14 points in the contest with senior K.C. Stemen taking
a 13-4 decision over Logan Elm¹s Thomas Bohrer at 140.
“It was our senior night and all three of our seniors wrestled well,”
Nace said.
Fellow senior
Carson Wilshire won at 145 by a 12-3 count over LE’s Jeff Evans and Nate
Ormiston won by pin over Devon Haddox of Logan Elm.
The Braves took
the next two matches to narrow the score down to 14-10 win Dustin Dexter
pinning Christian Battle at 171 and Luke Sherman winning 15-2 over Teays
Valley¹s Drake Voris at 160.
Teays Valley took the higher weight classes with Sam Gilmore winning by
pin over Logan Elm junior Cody Smith at 189 while Pat McHugh won by pin
at 215 over Justin Duehren.
At heavyweight,
Andy Hardbarger won by pin over Ben Baker to make it 32-10 Teays Valley.
In the lower weight classes LE freshman Cory Johnson won 10-4 over Zac
Conn, while Kolten Stemen beat LE sophomore Michael Vollman at 112.
John James won for the Vikings at 119 10-3 over Dustin Gatwood.
The Gifford
brothers of Shane and Daniel each took wins with Shane beating Nathan
Jordan 8-3 at 125 and Daniel pinning Chad Speakman at 130.
“We knew
wrestling the Gifford’s would be tough,” Nace said. “They are both good
wrestlers and we wanted to win one or two of the lower classes before we
got to them.”
Logan Elm travels to Athens for the sectionals next weekend while Teays
Valley will be in action at Gahanna Lincoln High School also next
weekend.
