LE knocked off by Teays Valley

By BRAD MORRIS Herald Sports Editor

ASHVILLE - Three Teays Valley seniors scored big victories Thursday night, helping the Vikings beat county-rival Logan Elm 41-28 at home Thursday.

Teays Valley finishes third in the Mid-State League with a 5-2 mark in duals while Logan Elm takes fourth at 4-3.

“Our kids came out aggressive tonight,” Teays Valley coach Todd Nace said. “Our younger kids did well in their weights.”

The Vikings scored the first 14 points in the contest with senior K.C. Stemen taking a 13-4 decision over Logan Elm¹s Thomas Bohrer at 140.

“It was our senior night and all three of our seniors wrestled well,” Nace said.

Fellow senior Carson Wilshire won at 145 by a 12-3 count over LE’s Jeff Evans and Nate Ormiston won by pin over Devon Haddox of Logan Elm.

The Braves took the next two matches to narrow the score down to 14-10 win Dustin Dexter pinning Christian Battle at 171 and Luke Sherman winning 15-2 over Teays Valley¹s Drake Voris  at 160.

Teays Valley took the higher weight classes with Sam Gilmore winning by pin over Logan Elm  junior Cody Smith at 189 while Pat McHugh won by pin at 215 over Justin Duehren.

At heavyweight, Andy Hardbarger won by pin over Ben Baker to make it 32-10 Teays Valley.

In the lower weight classes LE freshman Cory Johnson won 10-4 over Zac Conn, while Kolten Stemen beat LE sophomore Michael Vollman at 112.

John James won for the Vikings at 119 10-3 over Dustin Gatwood.

The Gifford brothers of Shane and Daniel each took wins with Shane beating Nathan Jordan 8-3 at 125 and Daniel pinning Chad Speakman at 130.

“We knew wrestling the Gifford’s would be tough,” Nace said. “They are both good wrestlers and we wanted to win one or two of the lower classes before we got to them.”

Logan Elm travels to Athens for the sectionals next weekend while Teays Valley will be in action at Gahanna Lincoln High School also next weekend.
