WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE - Circleville came from sixth place in the
finals to overcome Sidney, Sheridan and Madison Plains with a very
strong second place finish at the Miami Trace Invitational with 123
points over the weekend.
Miami Trace won the tournament with 242 points.
"Probably the biggest difference for us seemed to be we won almost all
of the close matches," Circleville coach Jerry Post said. "An example of
that was we won two matches in overtime and Terry Ford at 189 pounds won
in double overtime."
Ford beat Miami Trace's Kyle Fenner in overtime by a 4-3 decision.
Russell McFadden at 135 and Mike Roeder at 160 each took second place
finishers while Daniel Widmayer (130); Chris Starner (145); Matt Dennis
(171); Roland Redmon (215) and Dustin Davis at heavyweight each took
third.
Logan Elm finished sixth in the tournament with 87.5 points.
Cory Johnson took second at 103 pounds for the Braves while Cody Smith
at 189; Shane Gifford at 125 and Daniel Gifford at 130 each placed
third.
Brad Wolford (135) and Jeff Evans (140) each placed fourth.
"To be honest, I wasn't really pleased," LE coach Jan Hurd said.
"Injuries are taking their toll and we have to get healthy for the
sectionals.
"We made mistakes in matches our guys shouldn't of lost, but we will
get it straightened out. Our guys know what they need to do.
"But we had Shane and Brad, two freshmen place for us, so that boads
well for the future."
Both schools return to action Thursday as Circleville faces Fairfield
Union in a Mid-State League dual that will start at 6 p.m., while Logan
Elm will entertain Hamilton Township and Amanda-Clearcreek in a tri-meet
that will begin at 5 p.m. |
