Logan Elm breezes past Hamilton Township

By BRAD MORRIS  Herald Sports Editor

Logan Elm didn't let a big win over DeSales affect their play much against Hamilton Township.

The Braves used four players scoring in double-figures to rout the visiting Rangers 78-49.

"We definitely worried a little bit about this game coming off a big win, but our guys came out here with the intensity and were ready and willing to win," LE coach Doug Stiverson said.

The Braves (6-0, 3-0 MSL) jumped out to a seven-point lead after the first quarter, powered by eight points inside from Jamie Morris.

Logan Elm came out a little sloppy in the second quarter, turning the ball over on two possessions and missing its first pair of shots out of the block to allow the Rangers to take a lead.

Hamilton Township senior Mike Fout powered a 8-0 run with six points on a pair of putbacks and two from the line that put the Rangers (2-3, 1-2 MSL) up 19-18.

The Rangers one point advantage would be the only HT lead of the night as Bryant Blake put in a layup to regain the lead.

Evan Blake then hit Kyle Reichelderfer cutting down the lane for a pair - one of 11 assists on the night for Blake in a double-double effort along with 13 points.

"Evan had an excellent floor game. He handled the press well and he was able to get the ball to our guys in good places where they could score," Stiverson said.

"It's one thing to make a pass ,but it's another to get a pass into a good shooting position and he was excellent at that."

Morris managed to chip in five more in the second stanza on a pair of easy lay-ins while Chris Leasure buried a trey in the right corner to put Logan Elm up 35-23 at the break

"Jamie did a good job of finding the open gaps in their zone and converting on the shots," Stiverson said. "He made it hard for our guys not to find him."

The Braves turned on the pressure in the third, forcing seven Hamilton Township turnovers for the period.

Reichelderfer converted on two layups during the quarter's early going while Evan Blake drained two triples and Leasure dialing deep for three and then adding another three the hard way on a layup and foul from Ron Shelton.

Logan Elm took a commanding 57-37 lead after the third and shot a stellar 31 for 54 in the game for 57 percent.

Hamilton Township turned the rock over 24 times in the game - compared to 14 for the Braves - and put in 23 of 57 (40 percent) attempts from the field.

Reichelderfer led Logan Elm with 20 points with Jamie Morris adding 19 on 9 for 11 shooting and Leasure 12.

"The guys came out here and were very unselfish with the basketball," Stiverson said. "They did a nice job finding each other and also applied some pressure on defense that forced some turnovers and good opportunities."

Fout led the Rangers with 28 points, while Jon Davis and Shelton each put in six.

Logan Elm is off over the Christmas break until the 27th when they take on Zane Trace at home.

The Braves also took a commanding 58-38 reserve win over the Rangers.

Tim Congrove led LE with 16 points with Ben Lee adding 10. Eric Holbrook put in nine for the Braves and Zach Holbrook six. LE can't convert at the line.
