An Alex Welch score with 45 seconds remaining in regulation tied the
score at 42 all for Logan Elm and sent the Lady Braves and Bulldogs into
a two-overtime thriller that LE managed to take 59-56.
"You can't take anything away from Bloom-Carroll. Audrey Mitchell was
player of the year last year in the league and will be a contender this
year," LE coach Donna Peters said. "Our kids did a nice job out there.
We had a stale quarter in the third with two points, but luckily we
bounced back and were able to hit some key buckets.
"This was a total team effort with everyone getting into the scoring
column. I don't care if it was one point or a lot of points, we needed
the entire team and they came through."
Bloom-Carroll (3-2, 2-2 MSL) opened up the first overtime on a 5-0 run
only to see Logan Elm (3-3, 2-2 MSL) come back with Mallory Rittinger
taking the ball coast to coast for two and Andrea Anderson making a key
steal and lay-in for two.
The first overtime ended on a Rittinger putback for two that sent the
game into a second period.
Bloom again found themselves up late in another frame at 56-55 with
23.7 seconds left. Rittinger missed both free throws at the line, but
Lyenya Riddle managed to corral the board and find Anderson for an
old-fashioned three point play.
A Lacey Elliott steal of the following possession sealed the outcome
for the Lady Braves.
"We're trying to get better as a team as the season goes along,"
Peters said. "Hopefully by tournament time we will be a team that is a
lot more balanced on the scoring sheet than we are now."
Anderson led LE with 15 points with Amanda McDaniel adding 12.
Riddle and Katie Hupp each added eight points.
"Getting Huppy back into lineup was a big bonus," Peters said. "She
stepped up had six points in the second quarter. It was important to get
her back after missing a couple of games and getting her back into the
flow of things."... She sees the floor well for a post player and we've
converted her to a strong forward She can either play the forward or the
post and that is a big help to us."
